Use this electricity calculator to see what you are currently consuming and come up with a plan to reduce your usage and save.

1. Using your computer keyboard enter the number of hours and/or minutes you use for each household item on a daily basis.

2. Press the CALCULATE button and you will see your monthly kWh usage and amount of money spent.

3. Press the CLEAR button to start over.

4. Experiment with the different appliances and see what happens when you reduce your usage on each item.

5. Check on a regular basis because depending on the season your usage may change.

Information

This calculator reflects not only the electricity cost based on 5.0¢/kWh but also the following:

Regulatory Charges - 0.62¢/kWh - primarily for services required to operate the electricity market

Debt-retirement Charges - $0.7¢/kWh - to pay down the residual stranded debt of the former Ontario Hydro

Delivery Charges - 0.99¢/kWh - for transmission and 1.51¢ for distribution which varies from each utility

This calculator does not include:

Adjustment factor - 1.0549

kWh - stands for Kilo Watt Hour. kWh is the amount of power consumed/generated over a period of one hour.

Calculator does not reflect phantom power. Phantom power(standby power) is the amount of electricity used when an appliance or electronic device is turned off or on Standby but is still plugged in. (Ex. products with LED lights, computers, cell phone charger, etc.)
